Subject: [TN] Identifying an INTEL part

We're building a board that has this ceramic INTEL PGA device in it. The BOM
gives a description of a: INTEL microprocessor, MG80C186EB-13. The markings
on the part is what is stumping me...Go to:

http://www.driveway.com/share?sid=e25a88c4.8e904
<http://www.driveway.com/share?sid=e25a88c4.8e904&name=Pictures&view=3>
&name=Pictures&view=3

and you can see how the part is marked, there's nothing there that even
remotely tells me what this part is...I have no idea if this is the right
device. I've been to INTEL's web page, and even called them. From the
description in the BOM, they've told me that it's from the family of 80186
High-Integration 16-bit Microprocessors, but the person who I spoke with
couldn't tell me about the part markings...

Steve:

I see you don't have a military manufacturing background.. I've had to deal
with these manufacturer's part number versus DESC part numbers for years.
DESC (Defense Electronic Supply Center) in Dayton, Ohio, now known as
Defense Supply Center, Columbus (DSCC) creates drawings of popular parts and
then qualifies one or more parts to the spec, and puts them on a QPL. Any
time you se the 4-X digit part number scheme and it doesn't match the known
supplier's part number scheme... check out DESC, ooops, DSCC @
http://www.dscc.dla.mil/programs/psearch/
<http://www.dscc.dla.mil/programs/psearch/> . I have attached a copy of the
5962-09310902 pdf file addressed to you personally that will be stripped
from the TechNet distribution. If your board needs an 88 pin cpga, you are
in business. If you need a few more, http://www.rocelec.com/
<http://www.rocelec.com/> (Rochester Electronics) seems to have 27
MG80C186EB-13/R in stock. This specific part (as an 88 cpga) is long
discontinued, so only the newer package styles are available (SMT only).
The other "part number problem" is that Intel uses both part numbers and
product numbers. MG80C186EB-13 is a product number.

Good Luck,
Steve Mikell
