750°F is about right for good ol' through hole parts, light connectors that
you might be "touching up" at the end of a wave solder step. It could be too
high for sensitive components, micro-connectors, SMT passives, and the like.

What is the shape of the tip? Rate of heat transfer is the real issue. If
you have a quarter inch chisel tip at 750° it's probably too much. A conical
tip at that temperature might be appropriate for general purpose use. A
skilled operator will take advantage of the tip shape to control heat
transfer.

Subject: [TN] Temperatures for Rework operation

Hello to All,

I am interested in the optimum temperature for the soldering iron used in
rework operations.
At this moment we use 750F (Aprox. 400C) in the soldering irons for the
touch up operation (Rework operation in line for wave soldering).
Is it correct this temperature or do we use a lower temperature?

Thanks in advance
