Given the fact that the DI water contains carbon dioxide (if only very small
amounts) I would expect attack, but the attack itself will change the water,
and neutralize the carbon dioxide, and stop further attack.

So, unless the water is being constantly refreshed, or worse, sprayed, (where
it can absorb more carbon dioxide), I would expect the attack to be at the
angstrom level.

And this is given an hour, heated.  The use of DI water for rinsing, where it
has neglible contact time, seems wholly appropriate.
