Hello Ken,

Something that I have done for mounting holes, that may also work in your
situation is as follows;
The hole must not be plated through.
Wave side pad is not a continuous annulus, but has a gap on the leading and
trailing sides as presented to the direction of board travel.
The surfaces of the pad pick up solder, but the hole does not close over.
With a pin in the hole, I would expect the pin to solder to the two crescent
shaped lands, as long as the pin to land gap was close enough.

regards,

Phil.

Subject: [TN] Special through hole pad design

Technetters,
Could anyone advise a design of soldering pad which will not be closed with
solder during wavesoldering when the hole is not inserted with component,
but it
can form a normal solder joint when a component is inserted through the hole
with the lead clinched by auto-insertion machine? The board is 1.6mm thick
single sided pcb. Thanks.

Ken
