Joseph,

The first three items are easy. Its the "inexpensive" that trips us up.

Here are some suggestions.

3M #42, Anti-static Kapton tape, solder mask (This is our standard wave
solder mask for edge connectors and large holes.)

3M #5419, Anti-static Kapton tape, solder mask (has a sticker adhesive)

3M #5413, Kapton but not anti-static

3M #5414, polyvinyl alcohol backing which is water soluble and a synthetic
water soluble adhesive designed to mask gold fingers during wave solder.

Then there is 3M #219, a high performance green film backed tape, designed
for conformal coating masking with a working temp of 275°F but not listed as
anti-static.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [TN] Conformal Coat Masking

Can anyone out there recommend a good masking tape?

Desired properties, in approximate order of importance:
1. Withstands 85C indefinitely.
2. Sticks well, but peels off without leaving residue.
3. Antistatic a plus, but conductive probably not worth it (we
    use ionizing air blowers).
4. Inexpensive.

Our coatings are mostly urethanes, manually sprayed.
