Are we talking about Vapour Phase soldering or Cleaning?

HFE has been used for defluxing.
I am unaware of its use in soldering.

Subject: Re: [TN] Freon replacement for vapour phase

David

3M do manufacture a secondary perfluorocarbon fluid, but this is very
expensive and horrendously global warming (thousands of times worse than
CO2), as is, of course, their Fluorinert series, also PFCs. PFCs are
targeted in the Kyoto Protocol. Since then, 3M have marketed an HFE
"substitute" for CFC-113, but I don't know whether it is stable enough
as a secondary fluid - I rather doubt it. It may be slightly cheaper
than the PFC and it has a Global Warming Potential 'only' in the
hundreds.
