Ken
Pros:
- Potentially increased long term reliability under poor climatic
conditions
- Improved high-impedance stability
- Liberty to reduce spacings to voltage gradients as high as ~200 V/mm
- Less risk of coronas for high-volts at altitudes > 15000 m
- Subsequent extrinsic contamination will change Zo less or have less
effect generally
Cons:
- Cost
- Requirement of near-perfect soldering/cleaning/coating process control
- Cost
- Testing/repairability may be more difficult
- Cost
- If problems occur due to e.g. trapped contamination or under-cured
coating, remedy may vary from difficult to impossible
- Cost
- Choice of "correct" coating type difficult for application
- Cost
- Requirement for stoichiometry with 2 or 3 component types
- Cost
Oh! and did I say that a good preparation and application may cost you a
little?
