Matthew,
I have not had extensive work with conformal coating, but 99% of our boards
are conformal coating, and the only thing I have to do is specify, using
phantom lines, where I DON'T want conformal coating, such as copper
contact areas and specify that connectors are masked before conformal
coating.
Think of everything that you do not want a thick layer of poxy on and have
the
general area cleared. You will want to talk to the "coating company" about
their abilities and tolerances and such.
We generally use about 10 mils tolerance and do general square areas of
voids.
From what I understand the conformal coating does not go on like mask and
is a little difficult to apply.
