Under no circumstances should you try to use a coating to "cover-up" such a
problem - it would be the same as painting a rusty car.

As Brian Ellis stated, it is worse than useless to do this - in fact you
would be most likely to make the problem worse because a coating seals in as
well as out.

When you have identified the nature and origin of the corrosion - then yes,
a coating will/should prevent this re-occurring

Dean,

Look into 'Conformal Coating' of the finished board assembly BEFORE
shipping product. There are several types of conformal coating materials
out there to choose from. Check out Humiseal (www.humiseal.com), a part of
Chase Corporation.

Subject: [TN] PCB Corrosion

Is anyone having problems with PCB corrosion. We have a number of products
which are showing signs of corrosion on the copper tracks and planes. The
products concerned are in non-air conditioned environment and varying
humidity situations. Does anyone know of a suitable method to protect PCBs
from external elements. I am keen to hear of any known solutions to this
problem.

Thanks
