IPC hosts Technet as a forum and tool to aid the electronic manufacturing community better do their jobs. Because the subscription base is over 1600 people, and daily postings can range from 20 to over 60 posts per day, there are some common sense etiquette rules to be aware of to keep Technet the valuable resource that it is.

1. Most of the postings to the list are of a wide general interest nature. Occasionally there are posts looking for specific information such as experience with certain board houses or equipment, or locating certain individuals. When posting such specific requests, as a courtesy, please state "contact me off-list". When you reply to such a request, please reply directly to the person, not back to the list. This way only the person looking for that information will receive the replies for that information, and spare the list for information that is only of interest to a small segment of the list.

2. All of the TechNet and other forum postings are archived at the IPC site www.ipc.org >On-Line Resources & Databases > E-mail Archives. Searching can be done by subject, key word, poster, and date. On subjects that have been discussed before, there may already be a history of threads for a particular subject.

3. When replying to posts, especially long ones, or threads that have built up, instead of just hitting "Reply", making the effort to remove any irrelevant parts of the e-mail will reduce the length of the e-mail and make the e-mail easier to read and handle. (This issue is not really a problem for TechNet)

4. There is a list quick list of commands on the IPC website www.ipc.org > On-line Resources & Databases >Email Help Forums. Here you will find commands to set your subscription to Digest mode, to sign-off the list, to temporarily stop the list when going on vacation or on a business trips. Please remember to send the commands to [log in to unmask], NOT to the list itself.

If there are any other suggestions on how to make Technet work even better, please contact me off-list. Thank you all for helping to keep Technet the valuable resource that it is.
