Hans: Printed Circuit Board Materials Handbook by Martin W. Jawitz (Editor) is a good read.
Each chapter is a stand-alone mini-book on a topic. These mini-books are very well written by
knowledgeable people. [Some of these folk are generous contributors to Technet.] So, if for
no other reason, buy it to support our Technet brethren and sisteren. [Dunno, do they get
paid for things like that? I hope so.]

Unfortunately, the index is close to unusable [like most of the McGraw-Hill books in this
series]. This creates problems for casual users [because they know something is in the book
having seen it before, but for the life of them they can’t find it]. This drives them beezerk
and they resort to Coombs. [Coombs is an excellent resource that is well written and
comprehensive, but compared to Jawitz is not as focused and does not drill down to the next
level]. Further, because these mini-books are fairly stand-alone, there is some lack of
continuity between chapters.

As an alternative consider: "A Comprehensive Guide to the Design & Manufacture of Printed
Board Assemblies, V2" W MacLeod Ross, Electrochemical Publications
(http://www.elchempub.com/epfiles/ep30.htm ) ISBN: 0 901150 33 9. I have not read V2, but
Electrochemical does such a great job with production, I expect it to overcome my hesitation
with Jawitz. Find less self-serving reviews at:
