Joel,

Section 6.8 of IPC-A-610C covers HV soldering. I can tell you from several
years experience with HV soldering that the illustrations must be used as
guidelines only. It is near impossible for an operator to make a perfect
sphere or hour-glass shape as shown in the illustrations. Inspectors must be
aware of this. The important point to remember is that all joints must be
smooth, that is, no sharp edges or protrusions. Also see paragraph 13.2.3 of
J-STD-001C.
