Absent oils/soils which should come of in a strong aqueous cleaner
containing alkaline
detergents, the culprit could be either the inherently passive nature of the
nickel surface or
a "too smooth" surface. For the first case, an acid pickle dip is suggested
(@10% HCL based would activate the metal i.e.-muriatic acid.) For the
second case, a surface roughing step may be the answer (light scotch-brite
abrade.) In any case, I'd first conduct a water break test by wetting the
surface and seeing if you have water beading or good sheeting action. Then
try each corrective approach separately with different parts (...Alkaline
detergent, acid pickle, surface abrade.) and compare the results by
concluding with another water break test. Where there is good wetting,
you'll have the best change of getting the epoxy to stick.

Subject: [TN] INK MARKING

Having trouble ink marking (epoxy ink) on nickel plated housings. Marking
comes off during in-line aqueous cleaning process. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim M.
