The best thing to do is to make sure you have consistency not only within
your company but to industry standards - such as the suggestion below.

We have ONE Customer that uses a "+" sign, a heavier filled in area at the
anode end, the number 1, and a NEGATIVE sign!  (Of course, we were supposed
to figure all the variations out with no input and I'll give you 3 guesses
what happened).

To make matters worse - there was this one board (out of approximately 30
different assemblies we build for that Customer) that had the number one at
one end, and a plus sign at the other end.  It was their exception board
they neglected to tell us about.
