The additional testing and the tougher requirements are going to increase
rejection rates and therefore yields, these factor also increase the cost of
fabrication. After all you would not expect the same kind of reliability on
a 20$ remote control car as you would in a nuclear power plant or a plane.

My two cents,

I have always thought the cost was not based on how the we process
assemblies through the build process but on what additional inspection,
testing, environmental testing, etc. 100% inspection versus sample
inspection. The additional data that needs to be kept or provided. Things
of that nature in my opinion. Understand I have never been directly
involved in estimating cost but that is what I have learned or developed in
my mind over the years. Again just my 2 cents worth. Jon

Subject: [TN] cost difference class 3 vs. class 1

I need the expertise and experience of techies today.

What is the typical cost difference if I build class 1 product and want to
change to class 3?

For instance, my class 1 board cost $10.00 to build, what would be the cost
to build this board to class 3?

Thank you for your help.
