TechNetters,

We're having a problem in our wire wrapping operation trying to wire wrap pins separated by 0.1 inches (2.5mm). 

Our operator is using 30 gauge wire, from Cooper, part number 990083ST, using a Cooper wire wrap tool.  The wire calls itself "Wire Wrap".  She can get the first wire wrap done OK, but when she tries to wrap the pin 2.5 mm away, the wire breaks after a couple of turns.

She has tried another spool of wire, from Advance Electric Sales, "AD-STRIP Kynar", also 30 gauge.  This wire works fine.  She says for "many years" she's had problems with the first wire.  Advance Electric seems to no longer be around.  Can someone help us find more of the AD-STRIP Kynar wire?

Any comments on this problem would be welcomed.

For the sake of my education, is wire-wrap wire different from "regular" wire?  Ductility, grain size?  

Is some wire-wrap wire intended to be stripped before being put in the tool?
