Hi everyone,

Has anyone ever tried using resistance welding to bond a nickel strap to a
PCB pad? We have such welders in house but we currently solder a five
thousandth thick by 1/8" wide nickel strap onto a PCB pad. We tried welding
the same strap to the PCB just for experimenting, and it looks good on the
surface, and we performed a pull test and it took 5 to 9 lbs. to pull away
from the pad. My concerns are lifted pads, or the bonding between the pad
and the laminate material weakened. The PCB that we are using is .031" FR4
with 1oz copper. What do you guys think? Before we do to much work on
this, I wanted to see if it even sound feasible or what road blocks we will
come up on. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim West
