Whoa! - manufacturing as a contract manufacturer doing assembly? or
Manufacturing as it print and etch, etc.?
or Both?
PTFE (Teflon) materials are much softer than the FR4 types that you are used
to.
Microwave boards typically have printed and etched features that are
actually components... i.e. mixers, combiners, splitters, couplers, filters,
etc. can be etched into the circuit - so - the precise etching of features
to tight tolerances is a must!
Most Microwave circuits will be classified into freq ranges i.e.. C-Band
(2-7 GHz) or Ku Band (15-18 GHz) and there are many others... The Higher the
frequency, the finer lines, the more expensive materials, etc...
I personally have not seen a multilayer microwave board. All of the boards
we made were double sided plated thru materials.
Rogers is a good source for info on materials ... they pioneered the
processes to make non-stick PTFE stick to copper...

Subject: [TN] Microwave PCBs

We are investigating venturing into manufacturing
microwave PCBs and I have a few questions. Any help
would be appreciated.

1) Can anyone explain what the different
characteristics are that I might encounter between a
circuit board that is operating at microwave frequency
versus digital?

2) Also, what adhesives/prepregs are used on teflon
product?

3) I am familiar with multilayer microwave PCBs but
what other types are there?

Thanks for any help.
