Tim:
Sulfides react with the Copper substrate, and turn it black. Sulfides are
quite reactive, and even small amounts show visible blackening, so if you do
not see blackening, you likely are not having a problem.
Most acid metal cleaners should be able to dissolve the Copper Sulfide.
