Actually, I've found that cored solder hardly deteriorates. After all, oxygen is the
great deteriorator and oxygen cannot get to that flux core very easily. The metal may
be slightly oxidised but a wipe through a coarse cloth as you pull it off the reel is
sufficient to handle most of that. Perhaps low solids (<2% flux) wire may be less easy
to use as there may not be enough activator to handle excess oxides.
