I understand the annoyance of the technicians who have been given the
lead-free assignment by their companies-- with people like me. But do they
realize that they, too, are part of a political game? Do they know that their
companies are working through the AEA and EIA (Thanks, Denny Bernier for
making their statement of principles July 13,2000 available to all of us)--
to consign the no-lead movement to history, along with Y2K. But the
individual companies and key people dare not make their stands public, for
fear of retribution. I regret the enormous economic toll on the world
electronic industry. So ask yourself-- do you really believe that lead in
solder is an environmental threat? If this energy could only be diverted to
recycling technology research. If we only could concentrate on system
studies and actions that take all environmental factors into account.
Perhaps the no-lead discursion will lead on to better and more noble causes.
And these are my last words on this subject.
