Actually, our purchasing department has informed us that 0402 and 0603 parts
are much easier to get than 0805s (easy is relative in today's component
market).  As more companies are going to the smaller parts, the component
vendors appear to be focusing on producing the 0402s and 0603s.  In fact,
some vendors are even starting to obsolete the 0805s.  So, if your design
team can reduce the package size, I recommend that you try to get them to do
so.  A slightly better product (if there is even any difference) is not much
use to your company if you can't get the parts to build it.
