Yes, we did verify that.

Delivery on resistors: 0805 is 16-18 weeks, 0402 is 6-8 weeks.

We are still waiting for the caps delivery.

We are going to buy a complete line of assembly equipment, I have been
assured that placement and solder paste will not be a problem.

Thanks for the info.

P.S. if anybody has more insight, please feel free!!!

Subject: RE: [TN] Reducing package to 0402

I would doubt that the supply of 0603 and 0402 components will be any better
than that of the 0805's. I used to assemble RF modules for the cell phone
industry, and we had a hard time finding 0402 components. Before the switch,
you might want to confirm this with your vendors.

Also, as the components get smaller, the solder thickness, printing
accuracy, pad layout and pick and place component placement capability
become extremely critical. Another concern would be the availability of
feeders for the pick and place equipment you are currently using.

Subject: [TN] Reducing package to 0402

        Hi to all,

We are a medium size company doing mainly broadband RF designs (5MHz
to
        1Ghz) for the cable industries.
Our PCBs are usualy 2 layers, components on 1 side. We use mainly
0805
packages for caps and res. Price is a high concern to us.

Since we notice a lot of delays in the delivery of 0805 packages, we
are
looking on switching to 0603 or most probably 0402 packages.

Do any of you have opinions on this switch?
We noticed that the price of parts will get higher, will there be
major
technical difficulties in design or assemblies of PCBs?
Do any of you looked at or made the switch?
Do you have any recommandations about the switch?

Just trying to get more opinions on the table,

        Thanks to all,
        Dominic Gagnier
