Tim,

Just talking with a fellow here about your problem ('cause that's a
configuration we were contemplating for the future). We thought it might be
possible to prepare a 'gold' daughtercard, with carefully aligned and
soldered Mictors, then mate the (unmounted) motherboard Mictors connectors
to it, place the whole assembly on the motherboard, solder the motherboard
Mictor ground pins, then remove the daughtercard and solder the signal pins.
That's a lot of special handling if you are talking any volume production
though.

Subject: [TN] AMP Mictor connectors

Does anyone have experience with using Vertical AMP Connectors to mate
daughter cards to a mother card. I have an application where multiple
daughter cards are mated to a system board via mictors. The problems occur
with cards that have 3 or more mictors per daughter card mating to the
mother board. I suspect alignment b/w mictors to be the problem b/c when I
only use one connector to mate to another board we have seen no mating
errors. Our process currently has the mictors hand inserted before reflow.
Help, the next products have as many as 9 mictor connectors on a daughter
card.

Thanks

Tim Stammely
