MEETING OF THE SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER
OF THE IPC DESIGNERS COUNCIL

Date: Wednesday, the 2nd of August 2000

Where: Connies Restaurant - Derby, CT.

Time: Demonstrations: 4:30pm, Meeting 6:00pm

Topic: DFM Analysis Tools

This month's meeting will be a joint meeting with the SMTA Nutmeg chapter.
DFM Analysis tools are often thought as tools for fabrication of boards.
However, today's tools not only address fabrication, but include items such
as bare board test, assembly and assembly test, to name a few.

The highlight of the meeting will be a panel discussion of Producibility and
DFM issues, and how tools can help the designer produce more manufacturable
product designs. Panelists include representatives from GenRad, Router
Solutions and Valor. Some of the topics to be addressed by the panel will be:

1. How are the rules developed; whose rules; and are they customizable?
2. How extensive is the analysis in fabrication, bare board test, assembly,
and assembly test?
Does it cover electrical requirements such as signal integrity, EMI, or
specific signal
    requirements?
3. What CAD, CAM, CAE, and test systems are supported? Are special
translators required?
Is the input generic? Is the flow of information bi-directional? What
data format is used?
4. What is the analysis output mechanism?
5. How long does it take to do the analysis?
6. How do we leverage the benefit of the analysis? Does it improve time to
market?

Prior to the meeting, GenRad, Router Solutions and Valor will hold product
demonstrations. The demonstrations will begin at 4:30pm. Please RSVP should
you wish a full product demonstration.
