Thanks everyone! I went down and checked the specs and this job is being built to the J-STD. Which I found to be quite satisfying as I no longer have to worry about inspection. (The exterior joints on the FPGA look great!) If something fails in E-test, I'll be looking for an X-ray machine, but for now its off to fight the other fires!

Hi Eric,

Have a look at IPC/ANSI-J-STD 001. In chapter 9.2.4.3 (of C-revision) it states that the hidden joints are acceptable, as long as the the design doesn't restrict solder flow, the visible portions (if any) look fine, and you have some sort of process control. That makes things easy, doesn't it ?

Kind regards,

Hey all.

How should one go about inspecting PGAs after wave soldering? I've checked the archives, but can't find anything. I would imagine that you'd have to use X-ray equipment, but are there specific angle to take shots from?

Thanks,
