We are having some difficulties with the following connector used to connect
PCB assemblies to wired backplanes.

Harting part number--09 03 096 3214 (DIN 41612) 96 pin female connector
for crimp contacts.

(Crimp contact number 09 02 000 8484 Note: contact typically crimped to
20--22 AWG wire.)

The problems appear to be twofold:

1) Occasionally when a crimped contact is inserted per manufacturer's
specifications the contact does not lock in place.

2) Frequently when a contact is locked in place it pulls out even when there
is no pull force greater than the pull force for which the component is
rated.

These events appear to be random with respect to the pin locations in the
connector--also the failures appear to be random with respect to our
process--i. e. assembly, inspection, test etc.

Has anyone had similar problems with this connector?

Is anyone using this connector successfully with no problems?

Any suggestions on how to eliminate these problems?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
