you also have things like bonded stores, traceability, solderability testing, unforgiving workmanship standards, etc. that are invoked as a result of the philosophy that if it fails in use it can't be fixed.  be sure you know what you are getting into.  it sounds like there isn't anyone in your company that has experience in this area.  you might want to have someone with great references, that has had this experience, talk to you all about it.

Theorectically all of the "special" needs for space applications have
been included in the design.  So you should not need to change
anything.

Only bad side is you have to get used to someone (many someones)
looking over your shoulder.  You do your inspections and then several
others reinspect.  There is also much more responsibility placed on
the assembler to ensure that the boards used are good - so that
extra testing is required - usually performed by an outside lab.
