Evidently my posting fell through the cracks somewhere along the line
because I received a message stating that it was being returned for reasons
I don't understand. Whatever!

The ideal material to remove tape residue is called "Goo Gone". I use it at
home and I have seen librarians use it to remove residue from labels put on
library books. It does the job and is available at local stationary outlets.
