<< As an IPC Certified Designer, I take offense to comments referring to the
"Lazy Designer". Perhaps you are forgetting that the Designer is not
responsible for contractual requirements, or perhaps the Lead Engineer has
stipulated certain requirements to be met. Perhaps the Designer was
responsible for the design of the board and not the documentation.
As a designer that has worked with both fabrication and assembly shops to
meet their needs, I take offense to your "Lazy Designer" stigma.
Perhaps when I call two assembly houses that have two sets of requirements,
and each is unwilling to change, I should call you "Lazy Assembly Houses".
Perhaps to those board shops that have modified my supplied artwork without
notification or approval, I should call you "Lazy Board Shops".
Perhaps you should ask the Designer (and not a Purchasing rep) why he made
such choices, and listen to the answer.
Perhaps you are too lazy to call!!!

Is that the type of response you expected Hans? >>

Hi Dennis,

I really didn't mean to offend...honestly. I typed that comment in there for
just the reason I said, to stimulate some input from people to try and
understand the real reasons of why it's so difficult to get things changed
when there's a problem with the assemblies we build for D.O.D. customers. I'm
sorry if I offended you or anyone.

I have learned a lot from the replies. Most of the time the only interface I
have is with the buyers, I don't get a name or a phone number of who I can
talk to to offer some suggestions. I just get told things won't be changed,
end of story. So I've really been wondering why. I mean we build boards here
where the date on the drawing is 1986 and the board has jumper wires and
trace cuts on it...

I'd like to apologize if I did offend anyone...my comment wasn't intended
that way, it was only to stimulate some replies. I sure went about it the
wrong way I guess!!
