This is an issue which haunts all the Listowners and users using Listserv software. In general, the Listserv has features which recognize repeated posts of the same message such as an autoreply and will unsubscribe the user after seeing a set number of posts. (Other Listowners and I have brought up this issue with L-Soft, but their position is that since there many variations of the Out-of-Office AutoReply there is no automated way of filtering the initial reply.)

I would strongly encourage subscribers to send and e-mail to [log in to unmask] with the following command

Set ListName NOMail

when they go on vacation or out of the office. This command will temporarily stop delivery of IPC Forum Listserv e-mail to the address, and thus prevent any generation of OOO AutoReply in place. When the user returns from vacation or a business trip an e-mail with the command

Set ListName Mail

can be sent to re-activate the delivery of IPC forum e-mail.

This is less cumbersome than unsubscribing and subscribing each time.

The only other alternative is for the Listowner (Me) to manually set the any users to NOmail status after the first generation of an OOO AutoReply on the List.

Hi!

I'm getting a little narked at the number of automatic "out of office"
messages, in response to anything I contribute to the IPC forums. I
cannot see that these serve any useful purpose other than to help
overload the servers/internet etc. In fact, they are little better than
spam or any other form of canned luncheon meat.

Is there any way they can be filtered out at the IPC server?

Just a thought...

Brian
