In the days before CAD . . .
Printed circuit board designers were considered "artists"
not "operators".
A designer would draw (using paper, color pencils and templates on a
drafting board)
scale models of all parts used in the schematic for the PCB.
The designer would then "cut out the paper dolls" and
put some clear tape on the back to make them stay where you want.
The designer would then model different component placement
strategies to optimize the electrical characteristics for that particular
PCB.
Craig you are always welcome here @ TN.
Don't the Designers have a net ?
I know some of them are here,
thought I heard them mention a PCB Designer net.
Good Luck
Mike

Subject: [TN] IPC designer certification - Paper Doll

I am studying towards my IPC designer certification. In the
syllabus one
of the objectives is to explain the paper doll placement
strategy. I am
not familiar with this stratgey, could someone please
explain this to
                me.
If anyone has any other advice about the certification, I
would really
                appreciate this.

                Thanks in advance
