The gold thickness requirement for sliding contacts (edge connectors) for UK
telecomms used to be 5 microns (0.0002") gold on copper, based on the fact
that this would withstand thousands of insertions. This was reduced to 2.5
microns gold, direct on copper or with a nickel underplate.

Can't believe these standards are still used since nowadays there is no need
for so many insertions.
