Like Brian, I agree with points 1, 2, 3 and 4 wholeheartedly, but I strongly
disagree with 5 and 6.
Certainly, I agree with the reasons given byBrian, but furthermore if not we
engineers and scientists speak out, than who? As professionals, I feel we are
dutybound to speak when scientif and technological half-truths are twisted to
justify somebodies--politicina, misguided zealot, lobbyist, etc.--agenda.
In fact, I fault the engineering societies for not speaking up on such
issues; e.g., that is how the US wasted $50 billion on asbestos
"clean-up"--different asbestos, and no imminent danger (you would not however
want to make a career working in a mine or plant making the stuff without the
needed protection for long-term exposure).
Thus, our LF forum is quite approriate to debunk some of the nonesense
floating around,
