Tom,
IPC-A-610 Rev C, Sec 8.2, Screened Markings, Acceptable Class 1,2,3:
"Marking ink on the land does not interfere with soldering requirements."

Reject Class 1,2,3: Marking ink is present on the land interfering with the
solder requirements of Table 6-2 (Minimum Acceptable Conditions, Plated
Through Holes With Component Leads) or with the surface mount soldering
requirements of Section 12 (Surface Mount Assemblies).

In other words, it's OK as long as you can meet your minimum acceptable
joint requirements in regard to wetting, fill and fillet. It doesn't mean
you should accept it from your fab vendor on an ongoing basis though....

Subject: [TN] Searching for IPC "marking" spec

Was wonder if anyone can point me to the IPC spec which specifically states
how close silk screen marking on a printed wiring board can be to land
areas?

Thanks,
