No technical content, but for all of you who like curious little stories I copied this from http://www.ebnews.com/story/OEG20000522S0003, an article which illustrates how companies are dealing with present component shortages :

"Stephen P. Kaufman, chairman and chief executive of Arrow Electronics
Inc., Melville, N.Y., also illustrated the extremes that OEMs are
going through to meet production demands. Kaufman said an Arrow
customer, which he did not name, builds a product that is heavily
dependent on flash-memory devices. On learning that the Palm Pilot
organizers use the same flash chips as his company's product, the
OEM's chief executive summoned all employees to hand over their Palm
Pilots. Production workers promptly pulled the flash devices out of
the units and walked them down to the production lines. Employees
then received vouchers for new Palm Pilots."
