Well, my favorite engineering answer is "It Depends". How clean is the
water? What is the base metal?
In some water drop research we did in-house, we found that for a bare copper
electrode system, a board that we would define as "clean" would last about
8-10 minutes. A HASLed board, which was dirty by our guidelines, lasted
about 2-4 and some failed in the first 30 seconds (9 volt battery).
