Brian, I suggest that you obtain a copy of Anthony Q. Testone's book titled
"Static Electricity in the Electronics Industry". He gives many examples of
problems that have been encountered in industry and measures used to solve
the problems. He also explains the whole ESD subject from generation to
prevention. An old, but really good book.
You can contact the author at: Testone Enterprises, Inc. Box 61, Limerick,
PA 19468 (215) 495-6660.
(I make the presumption that he is still available at this address as listed
in the fly leaf of his books third printing in 1985.)
I know much more has been learned since Tony wrote the book, but I have
found that the information is still relevant today. Reading this book will
not make you an expert, but you will know just about as much as most of the
people who speak in the "language of ESD" Good luck in your "search for the
light"!

Does anyone know of any studies on this subject? My company is experiencing
the same thing and Engineers always think they know better. I need to get
some factual data and proof showing that ESD exists and costs us money.

Thank you

Make them snap them closed!!! Issue disciplinary action if they continue to
disregard your ESD plan!!! Can your company afford to take the losses from
ESD damaged product?

TechNetters, in our PC assembly plant, we have people wearing static
dissipative coats, long ones down to the knees. Some do not snap them
closed in front, and just let the coats hang or float. I've told the people
in my department to snap the coats closed, at least 2 of the 5 or 6 snaps.
Am I doing the right thing? What's been your experience? Thanks...Lou Hart

Also, the floors are coated with static dissipative wax or, in some places,
are static dissipative tile. And the people are good about wearing wrist
and heel straps.
