There is some good reading at this site on how to setup ESD program and why.
http://www.esdjournal.com/
One of the papers said, make sure the smocks can discharge (example skin contact
at the wrist) or else the smock can carry a charge over to your product. This
article went on that the wrist strap is your best protection.

I was told that Lucent came out with a new ESD specification that doesn't
include smocks, can anyone confirm that?
When I brought the issue of no smock up to a past manager, they said the smocks
works good of keeping visitors out of the area.

Subject: RE: [TN] Wearing of static-dissipative coats

Does anyone know of any studies on this subject? My company is experiencing
the same thing and Engineers always think they know better. I need to get
some factual data and proof showing that ESD exists and costs us money.

Thank you

Make them snap them closed!!! Issue disciplinary action if they continue to
disregard your ESD plan!!! Can your company afford to take the losses from
ESD damaged product?

TechNetters, in our PC assembly plant, we have people wearing static
dissipative coats, long ones down to the knees. Some do not snap them
closed in front, and just let the coats hang or float. I've told the people
in my department to snap the coats closed, at least 2 of the 5 or 6 snaps.
Am I doing the right thing? What's been your experience? Thanks...Lou Hart

Also, the floors are coated with static dissipative wax or, in some places,
are static dissipative tile. And the people are good about wearing wrist
and heel straps.
