For proper cross sections he will need sample preparation equipment to
compliment microscopes. This equipment includes:

Sample mounting materials:
* 1 1/2" mounting cups
* Epoxy or acrylic mounting media
* Specimen mounting clips to hold the samples in the cups

To properly section the sample a diamond-cutting saw is recommended.

The most important part of the x-sectioning equipment is the grinding and
polishing equipment. Automatic polishers are the most efficient however they
can be pricey. Leco and Buehler make tabletop and bench grinding wheels. The
wheels are essential! Proper x-sections cannot be created without them. With
these
grinding wheels and an assortment of grinding paper, polishing cloths,
diamond polishing paste, and alumina polishing powder you will be able to
prepare samples of various compositions.

ACI has stereo, metallagraphic, and scanning electron microscopes to examine
samples prepared with the previously mentioned equipment.

Subject: [TN] Cross section and inspection equipment

 Everyone,

I find myself in the market for some failure analysis equipment. I need to
purchase cross section equipment and microscope with digital image capture
capability. The equipment will be used to inspect populated boards for the
 most part.

 Any recommendations???

 Thanks,
