Hi Lon! There is no such thing as a stupid question and there is usually
someone in the TechNet community that can provide a helpful answer or
solution. Just one more comment on your question (you already have gotten
some good explanations) - one compelling reason to use a eutectic solder
alloy is its predictability in manufacturing. A eutectic temperature is a
great on/off switch because you go from a liquid metal to a solid alloy at
one temperature instead of having a range of some liquid/some solid. This
phenomena makes the SMT reflow soldering a predictable process - you known
the exact temperature you need to reach so that you can physically move the
SMT assembly around without danger of "disturbing" the solder joints.

Subject: [TN] eutectic
Dear friends,
It might seem a stupid question, but what does Eutectic mean when they talk
about eutectic soldertemperature?
Thanks in advance
