Aqueous-developed dry film resists are notoriously more sensitive to chemicals than
ones based on harder resins, especially if the chemicals are basic. You do not mention
the type of gold plating. If it is a cyanide bath, then the resist will swell slightly
(and absorb some of the chemicals), which will make it more prone to attack by the
hydrogen that others have mentioned, lifting it off locally. This will not apply if
your bath is an acid gold type.
