Hi Fred!

Don't mean to speak for the fab houses out there, but your requirements are
much like our own. We do low volume, military, hi-rel, high maintenace (a
bunch of paperwork, certificate of compliance, etc....) type of
assemblies...and it's hard to find somebody that wants to deal with
that...understandably.

Everything has a price, it's just a matter of convincing the people that
control the purse strings, that the specifications they are asking for does
cost more when you compare the board costs to everyday commercial electronic
fabs...it's like comparing apples to potatoes. When you're talking 40-layers,
blind and buried vias, 4-mil lines and spaces, under .250" thickness, exotic
laminates, that's pushing things to the limit...in my humble opinion.

I don't have any recommendations, but just the experience to tell you expect
to pay dearly for good quality fabs in the quantities that you're asking and
competent with the technologies that you're asking for...and be up front and
make sure they understand what you're asking for.

I guess what I'm saying is don't deal with only the reps for the fab house
(I'm sure you won't). You need to talk with the people in the trenches who
know what their process is, and is capable of. Don't try and pinch pennies in
this deal...when you ask for high end stuff, you DEFINATELY will get what you
pay for...I have seen that first hand. Thorough communication is vital...

I guess I'm saying don't shop around strictly for price, really learn about
the vendor capability and be prepared to pay the price when you find somebody
who's competent.

Sounds like you're gonna be in the same boat as we have been, finding a good
quality board shop that wants to deal with the low quantity, high quality
fabs that we deal in...it's no easy task, that's for sure.
