hi,

your best approach may be to create a specification control (or source control) drawing that identifies where the polarity marking should be on applicable components. this may reduce the number of qualified vendors, but the alternative sounds like a nightmare.

Subject: [TN] Component Polarity

Is there an industry standard documenting polarity markings on
components or circuit boards?

We have found that different component manufacturers will mark
either the positive or the negative lead as polarity for the same part
style. LEDs in particular are bad for this.

Our current standard states that the polarity marking on the part,
regardless of disposition, must match the polarity mark on the circuit
board art work. We have just started using a part with two different
polarity marks on it (opposing). Our system does not work for this
part.

Can anyone recommend a standard?
