Hey ya'll!

Still watching the NASCAR race, about 90-laps left. But there was a side-bit
that was telecast that showed some innovative engineering. It's just like a
post that was made a while back to the list for the guys that didn't have a
x-ray system in-house to do an x-ray on a BGA device; go to a dentist for
the x-ray!

Paul picked-up on it, and after he applauded the innovation, I thought how
great that was...I completely overlooked that resource as well! Dentists
might like the change of x-raying BGA's rather than rotten teeth...hehehe.

The NASCAR bit that had me applauding, was that a "pit-crew" member had
engineered a way to keep the brake dust from blowing in his face when
changing the tires during a pit stop. Just to go over a pit stop during a
NASCAR race, the pit crew will change 4-tires, fill-up the car gas tank,
clean all the rubber from the engine intake screens, and make suspension
adjustments in as little as 15-seconds (that's a real good stop).

But one thing that had been a problem (especially at tracks like Martinsville
where they use the brakes a lot) was that there would be a build-up of brake
pad and rotor dust on the wheels. When the cars came in on a pit stop, the
pit crew uses pneumatic lug wrenches to remove the lugs from the wheel. The
first lug that was removed would blow all the brake dust in his face and
restrict his vision (not to mention the contamination he was exposed to) so a
solution was PAM. Yes the same PAM that people use to spray their frying pans
with before they fry something. Supposedly cuts cholesterol and whatnot...now
has the reputation of keeping brake dust from blowing in your face during a
pit stop! They coat the insides of the wheel with PAM to keep the brake dust
down.

I thought here was an engineer thinking on his feet! Just like all of us have
to do a lot of the time...I thought it was pretty cool.

We all gotta think "outside the box" once inna while...
