CH4 from the back end of herbivorous animals may be considered a VOC and it is certainly global warming, as well as smelly. Ammonia from pig litter (or a ripe Coulommiers cheese) is MOST decidedly not
a VOC, nor can it ever be: ammonia is NH3 and contains no carbon and is therefore classed as inorganic and also smelly. It may be a VIC! I don't know the details of the atmospheric degradation
chemistry of NH3 or its compounds, other than it has an obviously very short residence time, probably of the order of an hour, so could not reach the stratosphere where it would cause ozone depletion
(unless you fly the pigs in Concorde). Interestingly, yes it could counter the effects of tropospheric ozone generation by photochemical reactions between VOCs and NOx, but I think I'd rather put up
with a few ppt of O3 than the same of NH3. :-)
