Some thoughts on protecting the group from this kind of thing in the future.
1) Is this chap actuaaly a member of TechNet, or is he an outsider who just
sent an e-mail to the TechNet address? (rhetorical, don't expect the membership
to be made public)
Does the TechNet software only allow postings from subscribed members?
2) If he is a member (recently joined, one presumes), was it made blindingly
obvious to him when he subscribed that this is not an acceptable practice? Or
would he have to pick this message up in due course by making the mistake or
seeing the collective wrath piled on someone else who made the mistake?
3) If he is not a member, but merely sent mail to TechNet, how would he know
that it's not allowed?
4) The use of the prefix "AD" or similar is commonly used in Usenet newsgroups
to denote a commercial message and is a courtesy.
I think I disagree with Steve's assumption that this guy was 100% deliberately
flaunting. He probably was applying the conventions of Usenet newsgroups, a
similar kind of forum to this e-mail based one. Perhaps it is not obvious
enough that this has a different set of rules.
