Hi Al, boy your asking a loaded question!
What is your PCB volume for any given project? 5, 10, 100? The next
question you want ask yourself is: how fast do I want get these through the
wave solder process? This usually dictates how many fixtures you will need
for that particular project.
The more fixture you buy, the faster the project will be completed, thus
freeing up the line for other projects. But of course, this in a perfect
world, where money is no object. Management will need a cost justification
done for the fixture you require. You need to look at the big picture, how
valuable is the cost of running the line over a given time to process the 5,
10, 100 PCB. One hour? 2 hours, 10! What type of labor savings are fixtures
bringing to the party? I can't answer these for you, but you have people
around you who can help with the justification. Talk to the PE'S & ME'S that
are responsible for that area. I hope this helps.

Anybody out there have a rule-of-thumb or a formula used to determine how

wave solder fixtures to purchase?
I'd like to keep the line going by having: 1 fixture being loaded with a
pcb, 2
or 3 fixtures in the machine, 1 fixture being unloaded, and 2 or 3 in the
cleaner (I like to clean - OA flux - after every pass).
Using the above sample, 6 to 8 wave solder fixtures would be required.
