Amen Steve! Having paid $600 for a CD-ROM drive in a recent machine upgrade
I can only conclude that the prices are a bit much. Unless it could be
broken down into $50 for the drive and $550 for a slightly longer IDE
cable...
I can understand paying premium prices for an unusual part, but when it is
something that arrives in the original box at a premium price it kinda
annoys me - that lovely "you've just been screwed out of some serious coin"
feeling that I usually associate with picking up my car from the dealer
after a routine service. $300 for a 4 gig hard drive in unopened Fujitsu
packaging?
In fairness, they have been somewhat reasonable on some things, like handing
over a free camera to replace one that had always been flakey - even though
we had used it for 4 years. But the high price for a trivial or common part
is what will get remembered... for good reasons.

Hi ya'll,

I want to add my two-cents in here. Don't wanna' bash anybody, but the
decision to switch from one vendor of pick and place equipment to another
was
primarily because of lack of support.

I will say that the lack of support from Mydata influenced the decision to
go
with Philips...we'll see how that goes.

I will say that replacement part prices from a lot of vendors suck big-time!
If you have a knowlegable maintenance technition, they may have the
where-with-all to look for the off-the-shelf replacements...but who has that
level of technitions? Or the time to do it?

As a illustration, I got soaked for a link in the acctuating chain that goes
into a Electrovert MCS-1000 cleaner to move the basket back and forth
beneath
the spray nozzles at $309.00...it's no more than a master-link in a chain
with a rod sticking out that grabs the basket.

DEK charged me $381.00 dollars for a SMEMA cable to connect their printer to
a FUJI conveyer...

Might as well accept it, any machine support from OEM's will cost ya'...it's
all in their business plans...
