Hi Technet People
I think something has to be said on this subject in defense of Mydata and all
SMT production equipment manufacturers. I've said it before and I'll say it
again - when you buy a used machine from someone other than the OEM, caveat
emptor! Your safest bet is always to buy a refurbished (and warranteed !
) machine from the folks who built it in the first place. That way you will
get the latest software and hardware upgrades, assurances of future
compatability (where appropriate) and SERVICE support. When they refurb a
machine they go through it completely and only then can they be in a position
to assure servicability. When you buy from an auction, used equipment
broker, or the factory down the street "you takes your chances". Most
equipment manufacturers will refuse to even look at such a machine, let alone
support it. There are some good used equipment brokers - I've had decent
experiences with them. But there are others (most) that are used car
salesmen of the worst degree.
Most of the equipment manufacturers have really good refurb programs -
Mydata, Fuji, DEK, MPM, Electrovert, Vitronics-Soltec, etc. In fact, Mydata
does a pretty thorough job of buying up used TPs to keep old beaters off the
street. Too bad they missed this one.
So, before you bid on that bargain machine down the street, get the serial
and model numbers and call the OEM and find out if they can/will support the
machine. It usually may not be such a bargain after all.
You have been warned!!!!
